My Superpower

Half of Proceeds Benefit Light of Day Foundation

We all know that people can’t fly unaided, bend steel bars with their bare hands, or sling webs out of their wrists, but there are many traits of the superheroes depicted in comic books and blockbuster films that children can certainly aspire to emulate. And these traits are shared by some of the world’s greatest real-life heroes as well. This is the premise of Jason Didner and the Jungle Gym Jam’s new power-pop single, “My Superpower.” Watch an adorable and emotionally moving photo video below.

Jason from the Jungle Gym Jam and Batman (Newark Detective Genaro Ortiz) rock the house on "My Superpower."Inspiration for “My Superpower” came directly from a themed concert Jason was planning. “The idea for this song came to me suddenly and powerfully while driving back from a meeting where we were planning a ‘Heroes Rock’ event that would be attended by Batman and Batgirl,” he said. “The urge to write down these thoughts was so strong that I pulled over and went into a bagel shop with my iPad and began to tap out my ideas as fast as they were pouring out of me – Batman, Superman, Mother Teresa, and of course my favorite hero, Martin Luther King, Jr.” He then brought those ideas home to his wife and creative partner Amy, where they chose the best lines and refined them into a finished song.

This new single is significant for the many collaborators who came together to complete this track. “Mr. Lou” DeMartino brought his bass talents to bear on four of Jason Didner and the Jungle Gym Jam’s new tracks, including this one, just weeks before an asthma attack suddenly claimed his life. Lou was beloved in the Asbury Park music community and all over North America and Europe for his deep involvement with the Light of Day Foundation. He was a longtime member of Joe D’Urso & Stone Caravan and had just recently joined the Jungle Gym Jam in order to supplement his gig schedule. He had fallen in love with performing for kids and families when his life was tragically cut short. In Lou’s memory, the Jungle Gym Jam will donate 50% of all proceeds from download sales of this single to the Light of Day Foundation.

The Singing Lizard Liz DeRoche on SynthesizerJason also sought out Liz “The Singing Lizard” DeRoche to arrange and perform the synth sounds that drive the power-pop nature of this tune and beautifully balance the guitars and drums. The Singing Lizard is an electro-pop singer/keyboardist with a highly imaginative collection of songs for kids and families – an artist who has gotten noticed in the children’s entertainment community in a big way in the past few years.

Jungle Gym Jam mainstays Ross Kantor and Casey McCleary handle the drumming and vocal harmonies respectively. Two children mark a first for a Jungle Gym Jam recording – the first time this band that creates for kids and families actually includes youngsters on a recording. Cole Bazerman and Charlie Cosgrove did the honors on those youthful backing vocals.

“”My Superpower” is a super charged pop/rock song,” said producer Marc Bazerman, who also mixed the recording. “My goal was to match the energy of the mix to the energy of the themes that Jason is singing about. This song is a great way to get kids excited to find their ‘Superpower'”.
