FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Montclair’s Old Mogul Theatre to Host Family New Year’s Rock-n-Roll Ball
On New Year’s Eve, Montclair will once again offer a family arts and entertainment experience to ring in 2016. The newly re-opened and renovated Old Mogul Theatre (www.oldmogultheatre.com) will be filled with singing, dancing, wonder and imagination. Family-friendly rock band Jason Didner and the Jungle Gym Jam (www.JungleGymJam.com) will headline the event, which will also feature an arts-and-crafts station, a magician and a face painter. There will also be giveaways of special prizes by random drawing.
Like many Montclair parents, Jason and his wife/bandmate Amy felt a let-down when First Night was cancelled in 2012 and wanted to create something special for families in its place. “The Township and the Arts Council simply didn’t have the money or the sponsors to make it work on such a large scale, even though the interest among nearby residents never went away,” Jason said. “When I heard about this new performance space, I felt the time was right to bring back something on a smaller scale, but still a chance to make great family memories of New Year’s Eve in Montclair.”
Joann Smalls, a partner at the Old Mogul Theatre, collaborated with Jason to stage this event. “Jason and I are very like-minded in how we put on and promote a show,” she said. “We both agree that it takes more than playing a bunch of good songs to really give an audience a memorable experience. You’re going to see that when you come to this New Year’s Ball. The show will have an impressive visual element and there will be arts & crafts, a face painter and a magician to create memorable experiences for the families who celebrate with us.”
Doors will open at 4:00 with the craft station available immediately and the magician interacting with families. The concert performance by Jason Didner and the Jungle Gym Jam will start at 5:00. The stroke of 6 PM will be a special celebration, as that time will be midnight of the New Year in Paris, France. “Auld Lang’s Eyne” will play and the ball will drop – a ball that kids in attendance will have a chance to decorate at the event.
“We’re thrilled to be part of the Family New Years’ Rock-n-Roll Ball,” said Sally Goodgold, the founder of Artsy and Craftsy (www.artsyandcraftsy.com), an art education program for young children. “Our New Years’ Craft Station will be filled with lots of sparkles, glitter and fun! What a fabulous way to ring in the new year together as a family creating unforgettable memories!”
